ESOCS Devotional 16 February 2023
TEXT: 1 CORINTHIANS 6:7-11
MEMORY VERSE: “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind.”1 Corinthians 6:9
So many of the problems in the Corinthian church involved sex. At a time, Paul received a report of uncorrected sexual sin in the church. The people had grown indifferent to immorality. Apart from the fornicators and the adulterers, there were the “effeminate” and the “abusers of themselves with mankind”. These refer to those who practice homosexuality. In fact, the temple of Apollo employed men whose job was to fulfill the sexual desires of male and female worshippers. But Paul denounced the sexual sin in the strongest possible terms.
Today, homosexuality has come to stay in many Christian denominations, while in other places, there is an attempt to legitimize it as an acceptable alternative lifestyle by the government and the church. Even some Christians say that people have a right to choose their sexual preferences. I need to add this; tat-too is used by many cult members for identification of the cult they belong to. Many Christians, especially the young ones are copying it as fashion.
But what is the Bible standard for all these? It specifically regards homosexuality as a sin (Leviticus 18:22-29; 1 Timothy 1:9-11); they who commit such sin are worthy of death (Romans 1:32). Christians who indulge and persist in this practice with no remorse need to re-evaluate their lives to see if they are truly children of God.
Our body is the temple of the living God (2 Corinthians 6:16); let us use it to His glory.

- Pray for power to overcome all sinful persuasions.
