TEXT: LUKE 6:1-11
MEMORY VERSE: “And he said unto them, that the Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath.” Luke 6:5
The Lord’s commandment as touching the sabbath has attracted so much controversies, especially from fault finders. The Pharisees were so keen in attacking our Lord Jesus and His disciples on sighting them eat corn on a Sabbath day. They were further irked when Jesus healed a man whose had was withered. Their attack on Jesus was not justifiable, as they did so just to find fault in Him and accuse Him of breaking the law of Moses. Jesus was swift to declare His Lordship over the Sabbath day and they were confounded.
It is pertinent to address believers and adherents of the Christian faith that the law of the Sabbath as instructed in Exodus 20:8-11 does not limit one from doing good. Such act of kindness and show of love should not be considered as breaking the law of the Sabbath. Keeping the Sabbath day holy should not be misconstrued. The Lord clearly instructs on what work should be avoided. This, in no way, points to doing good and saving lives.
As you go about your endeavours on the Sabbath, be reminded that every activity must be channelled to the glory of God. Let nothing be done in eyeservice to please men. Jesus remains the Lord of the Sabbath and should be glorified in all we do. Let no man despise you for doing that which glorifies God on a Sabbath day. The Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath.
