TEXT: 1 SAMUEL 16:1-13
MEMORY VERSE: “And the Lord said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.” 1 Samuel 16:1
0 And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 11 But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. 12 When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted lace ”
In life we are surprised in most cases to note that a rejected stone becomes the corner stone of the house. At the point when our worth means nothing to men, God who searches the secrets of the heart does not fail to find us out and prepare us for use to accomplish His own divine purpose.
In our text, we see that King Saul failed in his worth as king of Israel and God lamented. (1 Samuel 16:1). God is not restrained by man’s power when He wants to do His will. No man carries the capacity to stop the will of God. Samuel feared that Saul will kill him if he heard he had gone to anoint another king in Bethlehem; but God had a way out of it (vs. 2-5).
Anyone who desires the God’s favour has got to start now to monitor the attitude of his heart. Make sure that what your mouth and your hands are doing are in consonance with what your heart is thinking. And that your mouth speaks out what your heart condemns. This is how to be sincere at heart and live a life free from hypocrisy (vs. 6-11; Psalm 15:1-3).
It is a blessed experience to be chosen of the Lord for a task that is important to Him. God is meticulous in His choice. We have got to prepare our lives in a way that we will have the capacity to contain the Spirit and power required to carry out our God given task (vs. 12-15).
In all, we see that both Saul and David received the Spirit of God upon selection. However, whereas Saul could not perform to please God, David accomplished his task. The Spirit of God could use him to do the will God (1 King 2:10-12).
Make time to examine your life today. Accept, believe, and confess Jesus today. Invite him to rule your life. He will imbue you with the capacity to serve and please God at all times.
- Do you have the spiritual capacity to serve God’s purpose?
- Father, prepare and fortify me for your service, in Jesus Name.
