TEXT: EZRA 8:15-32
MEMORY VERSE: “For I was ashamed to require of the king a band of soldiers and horsemen to help us against the enemy in the way” (Ezra 8:22 KJV).
Prevalent evil, wickedness, armed bandits, insurgency, terrorism, ritual, murders and other social ills have introduced fear in our society, so much so that many seek for body guards, armed police protection at home, office, church premises, and on the way, as appropriately required. The scripture made it clear that “They that trust in the Lord shall be as Mount Zion, which can never be removed, but abides forever” (Psalm125:1-3).
Elijah demonstrated this word of God to proof that every word spoken by the Lord must be accomplished. He prophesied death against King Ahaziah of Samaria for consulting Baalzebub instead of the God Israel when he was sick. The king sent soldiers to arrest him but he called down fire from heaven and they were consumed. The king could not harm him because the angels of the Lord’s presence were with him.
Some true Christians have had armed robbery, kidnappers, and ritual murderers attacking them but they were not hurt because God Himself protects His people by the power of His might. The scripture says, “The rod of the wicked shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous lest the righteous put forth their hand unto in iniquity” (Psalm125).
People of God should remain strong in the Lord and faithful to Him, just like Elijah. They would experience God’s protection and providence at all times. He has promised: “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you” (Luke 10:19). His word is true and everlasting, and cannot be voided. All they need to do is to put on the armours of faith, righteousness, holiness, truth, humility, charity, and all the attributes that could be found in our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. That’s all it takes.
- What would you do to build up spiritual security round the clock?
- Lord, let your pillar of fire surround me and my loved ones always.
