TEXT: MATHEW 26:30-46
MEMORY VERSE: “Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing but the flesh is weak” (Mathew 26:41).
Prayer is a secret weapon of victory, for in it we commune with our heavenly Father, obtain His favour and assurance, enter into the realm of divine authority, access heaven’s armoury, and be able to achieve our purposes. It is a priceless jewel.
Our Lord has counselled us to pray so that we do not enter into temptation. This we should do constantly: that temptation that would make us commit sin does not come to us, and that temptation that would make us experience pain, loss, difficulties, regrets, and other evils, do not come to us. In Our Lord’s Prayer, He taught us to pray: “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil” (Matt. 6:13 KJV).
The Bible says, “Pray without ceasing” (1 Thess. 5:17 KJV). Constant and effective prayers are things a believer must not neglect. It may take long hours to do. Sometimes, it may be for a few minutes. We may have scheduled or cardinal times. We may do it in the church, home, work or business place, while we are in transit, or anywhere else. Whatever is the case, the important thing is pouring out our heart to our heavenly Father in earnestness, strong faith, absolute dependence on Him, and complete belief that He is able to do for us that which we have asked Him, and that He is willing to do it, and will do it.
Furthermore, our Lord gave us promises: “So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened” (Luke 11:9-10 NKJV). Again, among others, “And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive” (Matt. 21:22 NKJV). But we must do it in humility and holiness. That’s all it takes.
- Be addicted to praying constantly.
- Lord Jesus, please teach me how to pray effective.
