TEXT: TITUS 3:8-15 KJV
MEMORY VERSE: “This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly; that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works.” Titus 3:8a KJV
One of the most challenging aspects of discipleship is maintaining good works. When we come to faith in Jesus, we have a lot to learn and gain from instruction and exhortation regarding how we should live. It takes one who is genuinely converted to be able to produce good works; and the Holy Spirit helps us to ensure we maintain good works. Philippians 1: 6 makes us to understand that Jesus works in and through us to produce good works in us. This is the reason Titus was constantly affirming it so that they will know the importance of it.
Secondly, good works are profitable to men (Titus 3:8, 14) because it helps men to stay healthier, happier, more satisfied, and at peace with himself and God. Those who received kindness, help prayer, and good works are better off (Matthew 10:42). Good works are profitable to other people (Matthew 10:42) and profitable to God (2 Corinthians 9:12) because He receives praise and honour and thanksgiving as a result of the satisfaction of the wants of the saint.
It is important, however, to note that good works do not save us. We are saved by the love and kindness of God; not by works of righteousness, which we have done but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost (Titus 3:4–7, Ephesians 2:8–9, 2 Timothy 1:9, Psalm 49:7–9).

Good works are not the root but the fruit of salvation. They are the evidence, the outcome of salvation. When we maintain good works, we will be able to avoid foolish and contentious questions that will bring forth strife and quarrels about the law, which is unprofitable and vain.
CHALLENGES
- Have you been justified by grace? What steps have you put in place to help you maintain good works?
PRAYER POINT
- Ask God to give you the grace to be careful to maintain good works that will be profitable to men and Him.
