ESOCS Devotional 14 May 2025 – Opening the Seal
MEMORY VERSE: “And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see.” Revelation 6:1
TEXT: REVELATION 6:1-8
Now I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals; and I heard one of the four living creatures saying with a voice like thunder, “Come and see.” 2 And I looked, and behold, a white horse. He who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer.
3 When He opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature saying, “Come and see.” 4 Another horse, fiery red, went out. And it was granted to the one who sat on it to take peace from the earth, and that people should kill one another; and there was given to him a great sword.
5 When He opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come and see.” So I looked, and behold, a black horse, and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand. 6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not harm the oil and the wine.”
7 When He opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature saying, “Come and see.” 8 So I looked, and behold, a pale horse. And the name of him who sat on it was Death, and Hades followed with him. And power was given to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword, with hunger, with death, and by the beasts of the earth.

In our text, we saw the Lamb of God – our Lord Jesus Christ open the seal. Apostle John wept much because no man was found worthy to open or to look into it; but the Lamb of God alone had the authority to do so (Rev. 5:2-5). There was a code to open it and only our Lord possessed it – perfect holiness and righteousness.
Our Lord opened the book. He gained access to what was hidden – the secrets of the Father. In heaven, there are information we need to access to fulfil our mission on earth. The information are not accessible to Satan and his cohorts. This is because there are seals upon them. Only the authorised – the ones that carry in them the grace of God – can access them. The information deal on the rule of God’s Kingdom, matters of destiny and its purpose; and the need and how that destiny can be achieved and maximised on earth.
The devil is out to frustrate the destinies of believers. He knows the only major way to stop great destinies from being fulfilled is sin and waywardness. He also deploys distraction, allurement to do wrong in the sight of God, inducement of wrong decisions and more.
Beloved, thank God that He that is authorised to loosen the seal is our Redeemer and our pattern on earth. When He was on earth, He went as it was written of Him (Mark 14:21). There may be prophecies about you. But you need the Lord Jesus to open and reveal the secrets to you so that you can align yourself to actualize them. This is the reason you need to be close to Him, be attached and rooted in Him (John 15:4-7). Our life of prayer, devotions and obedience to God in partnership with the Holy Spirit (1Cor.2:9-12) will bring us to the place of access to the glorious things that are written about us. And we will receive strength and guidance to fulfil them.
CHALLENGES
- Do you spend quality time in prayer and in the study of the word of God with the Holy Spirit? Our Lord Jesus left us that example to follow! Fellowship is access to the seal.
PRAYER POINT
- Dear Father LORD, help me to pray and study your word, in Jesus name!
