TEXT: 1 PETER 4:1-6
MEMORY VERSE: “If you forgive people’s sins, they are forgiven, if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.” (John 20:23 GNV)
Our memory is an assignment our Lord gave us. We are to stand in His place and continue to forgive sins, that they may be truly forgiven. Actually, if we are true Christians, it is the Christ that lives in us that actually forgives sins, not us (Gal. 2:20; Rev. 3:20). This is one of the primary reasons we must be born again.
There is need for us to embark on spiritual self-development so that we would qualify and be able to fulfil this commission. Christ expects to continue to reconcile people to God until He comes again. The Bible says, “But all things are from God, Who through Jesus Christ reconciled us to Himself [received us into favor, brought us into harmony with Himself] and gave to us the ministry of reconciliation [that by word and deed we might aim to bring others into harmony with Him]” (2 Cor. 5:18 AMP).
But we have to be reconciled to God first, before we can carry out the assignment. We should maintain holiness in our life, and live in godliness, uprightness, integrity, virtue, purity of heart, mind, and soul, and the cleanliness of hands.
God is looking for partners in this business. Let us volunteer and get down to work immediately, and without ever ceasing. Time is running out on us, and the rest of humanity. The Second Coming of the Lord is here already; and many souls are out there prepared for the fire of hell. The business requires commitment and zeal. We should plunge ourselves into it with zest.
Again, when we fulfil this obligation, our own sins would be forgiven us too, for we would reap what we sow. Forgiving people and reconciling them to God is a cardinal part of our Christian duty. We should fulfil that duty in order to have a good reckoning with God.
- How many people have you reconciled to God?
- Lord, give me the grace to bring souls into your kingdom.
