ESOCS Devotional 14 April 2025 – Jesus is Lord of All
MEMORY VERSE: “For Christ died and rose to life in order to be the Lord of the living and of the dead.” Romans 14:9
TEXT: ROMANS 14:1-11
Receive one who is weak in the faith, but not to disputes over doubtful things. 2 For one believes he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats only vegetables. 3 Let not him who eats despise him who does not eat, and let not him who does not eat judge him who eats; for God has received him. 4 Who are you to judge another’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. Indeed, he will be made to stand, for God is able to make him stand.
5 One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind. 6 He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it. He who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks; and he who does not eat, to the Lord he does not eat, and gives God thanks. 7 For none of us lives to himself, and no one dies to himself. 8 For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s. 9 For to this end Christ died and rose and lived again, that He might be Lord of both the dead and the living. 10 But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you show contempt for your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. 11 For it is written:
“As I live, says the Lord,
Every knee shall bow to Me,
And every tongue shall confess to God.”

Life has made it that every one of us is differently gifted and having a set purpose to fulfil. We also have our likes and dislikes. Every one chooses his profession and trade. Even in food, the saying is that one man’s meat is another man’s poison. We are urged to give everyone his way. Let no man claim superiority over another because God has made us not to be equal in height: everyone is at his level. Not only are we of different levels of physical appearance and likes, we are also of different levels of faith. Faith is driven by understanding of what the scripture says and how far the Lord has taken us in what we know (Romans 14:1-4).
Yes, God can make us succeed if we give up everything about us to His control. The Bible says: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” God is to be acknowledged as the source of all that we can do and become (Psalms 27:1). So, the beginning of it all is that one has to follow the process of giving your life to Christ and experience of the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. The Holy Spirit of God is the power of God in action in the life of men. It drives passion for God and desires honour for God. The presence of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer is the reason why one can say that “Jesus is the Lord of my Life”. Jesus Christ cannot Lord it over your life if He has not sent the Holy Spirit there. So, confess your sins, confess Jesus Christ, receive His word and believe them, and you shall receive power (John 1:12; Acts 1:8; Romans 10:9-10).
This is how your life and acts at any level can honour God. So that in this case, the understanding that what others can do differently from what you can, also gives honour to God. God is not formatted. A lot of diverse acts and ways of men bring Him honour (Romans 14:5-11). Let us therefore be more concerned with things we can do to bring honour to God. Let us also respect the little or more that others can do. Jesus Christ is the Lord of all – we do not have the right to lord it over others.
CHALLENGES
- Is there evidence that Jesus Christ lords over your life?
PRAYER POINT
- Yes, I have Jesus as Lord over my life. With your Lordship, Father, take me to the next level of faith and benefits, in Jesus name. Amen.
