TEXT: ISAIAH 25:1-9
MEMORY VERSE: “And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is our LORD, we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation.” Isaiah 25:9 KJV
Our text is a song of praise to God who has redeemed his children. It begins with praise to the LORD for “the wonderful things” that He has done. His plans formed of old, were faithful and sure. These plans no doubt include His acts of righteous judgment (Isaiah 24:17-18), as well as His acts of grace and deliverance (Isaiah 25:2–5).
The “city” (Isaiah 25:2) represents man organized against God (Genesis 11:4). The destruction described is not vindictiveness on the part of God, but measured judgment, designed not only to punish but to bring the nations to the fear (reverence) of God (Isaiah 25:3), and to deliver the poor and needy (Isaiah 25:4).
Isaiah sings of the mountain that the LORD will host a feast unto all people and where God promises to swallow death in victory, remove the veil over the hearts of all people, remove the veil of mourning, wipe away tears from all eyes, and remove reproach and condemnation from man.
Our text further reveals the reason why the children of God could sing a song of praise. In our memory verse, Isaiah noted that “we have waited for him.” This shows that to be able to sing a song of praise unto the Lord, you must have waited on His promises. The place of waiting is the place of perseverance, endurance, and longsuffering in total submission to the will of God (Isaiah 40:31).
Furthermore, it takes one who knows and has a relationship with God to be able to sing a song of praise to Him. Isaiah said, “this is our LORD,” showing the certainty and presence of a relationship between God and him. We must build a solid relationship with God and have a one-on-one communion always, so that whenever we call upon Him, He will answer, thereby giving us opportunity to sing songs of praise of His faithfulness.
To be saved by God, you must believe on Jesus Christ and the finished work on the cross of Calvary. You must acknowledge your mistakes and confess them before Him (Romans 10:9–10; Acts 16:31).
