TEXT: MATTHEW 9:18-26
MEMORY VERSE: “He said to them, “Make room, for the girl is not dead, but sleeping.” And they ridiculed Him” (Matthew 9:24 NKJV).
One of the fundamental problems Jesus had with the Jews was unbelief. All the miracles He did among them (John 10:32) were not enough for them to believe in Him, trust in Him as both Lord and God, respect and revere Him. In the process, they slighted Him. When He told them of His mission to save the lost, give His life for them, and yet, take it back again (John 10:11-18), their reaction was that “… many of them said, “He has a demon and is mad. Why do you listen to Him?” (John 10:20 NKJV).
They commonized Him. When He told them that He is the Bread of Life and that He came down from heaven to save the world (John 6:35-40), they grumbled and said, “”Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How can he now say, ‘I came down from heaven’?” (John 6:42 NIV).
They did not revere Him; but disbelieved and treated Him utmost disrespect and disdain. When He said to them, “I and the Father are one” (John 10:30), the Bible says, “The Jews took up stones again to stone him” (v 31).
Many times, they ridiculed Him. When a ruler came to Him and pleaded with Him to come to his house and raise his dead daughter, He went there and said to the people, “Make room, for the girl is not dead, but sleeping” (Matt. 9:24 NKJV). The Bible says, “… they ridiculed Him” (v 24).
The Scripture says that He endured much opposition from sinful men (Heb. 12:3 NIV). Does our Lord have any particular problem with us? Do we belong to the group of people who oppose His gospel? Do we frustrate the growth and expansion of His Church in any way? Are we friends or enemies of God’s will in any area of life, within and outside the Church; even in the life of other people? Think on these things. These are unpleasant attitudes to the Lord. Avoid them!
- Align yourself properly in God’s will and schemes.
- Lord, give the understanding to know the way you want me to go.
