ESOCS Devotional 13 October
TEXT: ACTS 20:1-16 KJV
MEMORY VERSE: “And these signs shall follow them that believe; in my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues … they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.” Marks 16: 17-18 KJV
In our text today, we see Paul perform another great fit – in the name of Jesus, and in the power of the Holy Ghost, by raising Eutychus from the dead. Paul preached far into the night, and the young man, dosing from a window in the upper chamber, fell off and was taken up dead. But in faith, Paul simply fell on the young man, embracing him, and said: “Trouble not yourselves, for his life is in him” (v 10).
Recall similar events in the Old Testament Books of 1 Kings 17: 21-22 and 2 Kings 4: 34-35, where Elijah and Elisha performed the miracles of raising those who were already dead. What about the Master Himself? (John 11:43-44 and Luke 7:11-15)

The miracle of the resurrection is the miracle on which all other miracles stand or fall, the exclusive right available only to Christianity and those who believe. As you grow spiritually and in holiness and righteousness, this power that was available to the elects of old is still available to all today. So brace up and toe the footsteps of the Lord, performing endless miracles, including raising the dead.
CHALLENGES
- The miracle of raising the dead is still with us today. It is not the exclusive preserve of a select few. All you need is to brace up in spirituality, then, the Holy Spirit will do the rest through you (Acts 9: 36-42).
PRAYER POINT
- Lord Jesus, if Peter could do it (Acts 9:40) and Paul also (Acts 20:10), I need the grace to follow suit. Amen.
