TEXT: 2 TIMOTHY 4:9-22 KJV
MEMORY VERSE: “And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.” 2 Timothy 4:18 KJV
Just as in Paul’s time, so today many evil works surround us that our only hope is in the Lord’s deliverance.
Psalm 18:48–50 reminds us of God’s deliverance of His children from their enemies and from the violent man; and how He shows mercy to His anointed and his seed forever.
The reason for God’s deliverance and preservation upon His children is so they can be a part of His heavenly kingdom (Acts 14: 22), so that they may eat and drink at His table in His kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel (Luke 22: 30). Man is not always dependable, but may fail us because he lacks the power or strength to deliver us, or devotion to help us. Only God is the unfailing, dependable God. No wonder Deuteronomy 31:6 encourages us to be strong and of great courage and to not fear, for God is our guide. He will not leave us not forsake us.
God’s promise of His presence is valid for time and eternity. Just as the Lord stood with Moses and the Israelites and delivered them from bondage in Egypt, through the Red Sea, so was He with David when he slew Goliath, and so is God causing great deliverance in our lives every day.

All we need to do is to praise Him because the Lord deserves praise for His protective and sustaining hand. It is He and He alone who is able to deliver. In his last recorded words, Paul as he reflected on God’s faithful works throughout his life and ministry exhorted us to give glory now and forever to Him.
