TEXT: JOHN 5:1-30
MEMORY VERSE: “Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed and walk.” John5: 8 KJV
0 And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 11 But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. 12 When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted lace ”
To be faithful means to rely on the ability of God at all times with a sure hope that your expectation will come true according to His will. The one who is consistent is one who continues in his work in spite of all odds.
In our text, we read of the patience and faith of the great multitude of impotent folk by the pool of Bethesda. Only one is healed a year but the remaining waited till the next year in the sure hope that it might be their turn one day. Christians are expected to look up to God and none else for the actualization of their expectations (John 5:1-4).
While we are waiting on God, it is expected that we push on in what we do to serve God and humanity. One day it will be your turn to catch the attention of God. God works with His own time and has His plan for His people. He does it in a miraculous way. Among the multitude of invalid folks, Jesus picked up the impotent man. He had suffered for thirty eight years (vs. 5-8). He took up his bed and walked at the command of Jesus Christ. May the Lord enable you to walk out of your challenges, in Jesus Name. Amen.
We have no reason to deviate from our faith in God. We also have to be consistent in our service to God and humanity. God expects us to push on, no matter what. Persecutions and hatred will come, even when it is obvious that you are doing a good work (John 5:9-18) But you have got to move on.
At the end of it all, Jesus is the one who will judge the righteous and the sinners. He will surely take us to eternal peace and joy. (John 5:23-30; John 14:1-3)
- Is there any reason why we should withdraw our faith in Christ or our service to God and humanity?
- Lord, give me the Spirit and understanding to remain faithful and consistent in your service, in Jesus Name. Amen.
