TEXT: I TIMOTHY 6: 11-21 KJV
MEMORY VERSE: “That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Timothy 6:14 KJV
Back in the days of Moses, God gave the children of Israel the Ten Commandments to help them live a holy life before God (Exodus 20:1–17). The commandments are God’s spoken words that serve as a guide for godly lifestyle. Our Lord Jesus Christ made us to understand the commandments in Matthew 22:37-39 where He said we should love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, and mind; and to love our neighbour as ourselves. He kept the commandments for man and taught man how to live a life of holiness. When He was about to be taken up, He modified it again by saying we should love as He (Christ) has loved us (John 15: 13).
In order to keep this commandment without spot, man must flee the things, which are worldly and that can ensnare him, and pursue that, which has eternal significance such as righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and gentleness (1 Timothy 6:11). Man must also be ready to fight the good fight of faith and lay hold on eternal life as well as be true to God’s calling (1 Timothy 6:12), be blameless till Christ returns (1 Timothy 6:14), as well as guard his faith and knowledge (1 Timothy 6:20).
The major reason why Christians will dare to keep this commandment without spot is to show their love for the Father (John 14:15, 21). It is only the love of God that can enable a Christian to run away from all forms of evil and covetousness, as stated in 1 Timothy 6:10.

The result or benefit of keeping the commandment without spot is laying hold on eternal life. The emphasis on keeping the commandment without spot is to put a check on those who feel they are rich in this world, to curb their high-mindedness in the things of this world and to re-focus their minds on using their riches for the kingdom of God in order to obtain eternal life in the end.
