TEXT: MARK 10:1-16
MEMORY VERSE: “The Pharisees came and asked Him “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife? Testing him.” Mark 10:2 NKJV
The problem of marriage comes from the anger and hatred the man or the woman allows to enter the heart. The success of a marriage depends on the obedience of each couple to the word of God. A successful marriage is not a marriage without challenges; rather, a marriage which the couples have decide to overcome any challenge that comes their way and still stick together, no matter what.
The reasons given for divorce includes but not limited to adultery, desertion, drunkenness, inability to provide needs, conviction of crime, bigamy, incompatibility, fraudulent representation, misconduct, barrenness, tribal inclination, mother-in-law issue, denomination or religious differences.
Divorce was not in the plan of God for marriage but permitted it only in the extreme case of adultery, which was granted due to the hardness of their hearts. People who resort to divorce are offending God, for He says, “I hate divorce” (Malachi 2:16 NIV).
When we avoid worldly counsels, philosophies, and ideas about marriage and strictly follow the word of God, there will be no problem in our marriages (Ephesians 5: 21-33). The one flesh is not to be separated. The exception Jesus gives for divorce is the case of adultery. The unfaithfulness has already dissolved the “one flesh” by sharing his or her body with a third party. Couples should work towards going to heaven, rather than divorce. There should be no reason for divorce, for God hates divorce with perfect hatred.
