TEXT: MATTHEW 6:1-13
MEMORY VERSE: “… For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.” Matthew 6:13b KJV
One basic fact of life some people don’t understand or forget is that God created us for His pleasure alone (Rev. 4:11). Knowledge of this fact will always remind us to do whatever our hands find to do in the right way (Eccl. 9:10). And in doing it well, we must also do it to please God and not man. The motive behind everything we do in life is what counts to God. That good deed you feel you are doing, is it with the right or wrong motive? You may be a support to the weak and vulnerable (Job 30:25), but with the wrong motive (gratifying self).
Whatever you do in life to earn or attract praises from people does not give God pleasure. You usurp God’s position when you do good deeds to attract attention or praises from people. Both secularly and spiritually, let your actions and inactions be about God only. This is where secrecy, simplicity, and true humility count. Always remember that you can’t be or do anything without God giving you the power or platform (Deut. 18:1; Ps. 75:7). Do whatever you do, having God’s kingdom in mind. Never expect man’s reward, but expect one from God, the owner of:
(i) the kingdom we all want to enter
(ii) the power of doing whatever we do, and
(iii) the glory we so seek to have. It becomes necessary to follow the model prayer Christ taught us (Matt. 6:9-13). Let it always be about God.
