TEXT: JOHN 19:17-24
MEMORY VERSE: “Pilate answered, What I have written, I have written” (John 19:24).
Often times when a child is born, there is the quest to know its destiny. Some people resort to divination or clairvoyance. They take this quest very seriously.
The undertone of Pilate’s statement is that such written document is indelible; it cannot be voided, nullified, or taken casually.
For the Holy Scriptures of the Bible, Apostle John filled with the Holy Spirit, warned: “If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book” (Rev. 22:18-19 NKJV).
What lessons do we learn here relative to the written word of God? During His temptation, our Lord Jesus repeatedly reminded the devil that “It is written” (Matt. 4:4, 7, 10).
God’s word is His will written down. We are reminded that it is permanent, and to stick to it. We must neither alter nor deviate from it. We are to hold onto it firmly and adhere strictly to the kingdom principles it contains. We should live by practising it, and let it become like food to us. Like our Lord, we should continually say, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work” (John 4:34 NKJV).
We are not to give it our personal interpretation, for God Himself is His own interpreter; rather, we are to respect, revere, and obey it: “… Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book” (Rev. 22:7 NKJV). We experience different problems when we deviate from God’s word. Remember this truth always.
- By God’s word, discover what is written concerning you; believe it and proclaim it always.
- Father, thank you for writing wonderful things about my life. Establish it in my life, in Jesus name.
