The Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area, Sir Chidi Lloyd, has donated five mini shuttle buses to the Rivers State University (RSU) Emohua campus to ease transportation challenges faced by students.
Bright Jossy-Elendu, Special Adviser to the Chairman (Information & Strategic) in a statement said the buses were formally handed over on Thursday at the campus by the Council Secretary, Engr. Victor Benjamin, who represented the chairman. He said the initiative is part of the council’s ongoing efforts to support students and enhance safety measures on campus.
According to Benjamin, the local government will also cover the cost of fueling, maintenance, and drivers’ salaries, ensuring that students enjoy free transportation to and from the campus. Students will only be required to present their RSU identity cards to board the buses.
He noted that the donation fulfils the chairman’s promise during his recent solidarity visit to the campus following a criminal attack on some students at their off-campus residence in Rumuohia, Emohua. Benjamin further reiterated the chairman’s commitment to improving security within the university environment and across the local government area. He also highlighted the council’s role in the successful rescue of recently abducted students.
Receiving the buses on behalf of the university management, the Chief Security Officer of the Emohua campus, Dr. Kingsley Nyema Uruah, expressed gratitude to Sir Chidi Lloyd for fulfilling his promise. He said the gesture demonstrates the chairman’s dedication to the safety and welfare of the RSU community.
Dr. Uruah also commended the council chairman for ensuring the safe recovery of the abducted students and said the university looks forward to the implementation of other commitments made during the chairman’s earlier visit.
