The Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area, Sir Chidi Lloyd, has disclosed that the council played an active role in the rescue of Rivers State University students abducted from their off-campus residence in Rumuohia, Emohua.
The students were freed following a coordinated joint operation carried out on Thursday at a criminal hideout in Rumuodogo–Odegu, Emohua LGA. The operation involved the Nigerian Police, other security agencies, and relied heavily on credible intelligence supplied by patriotic youths in the area.
According to the council, the victims have been taken to a medical facility for treatment, while security personnel continue efforts to track down and eliminate fleeing members of the kidnap gang.
Authorities say the breakthrough followed the arrest of a gang member by the Anti-Cultism Unit two nights earlier. Information obtained during interrogation reportedly led to the successful raid in Rumuodogo.
Sir Chidi Lloyd commended the security agencies for their swift response and assured residents that the council is committed to bringing all members and accomplices of the gang to justice. He urged communities within Emohua and neighboring LGAs to support ongoing security operations with reliable information.
The council’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategic Communication, Bright Jossy-Elendu, signed the statement on Thursday, December 4, 2025.
