Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State has announced plans to construct a mini stadium with a standard football pitch at the Ahiezi Field, Emohua, as part of efforts to deepen youth and sports development in the area.
The Chairman of Emohua Local Government, Sir Chidi Lloyd, announced on Sunday at the closing ceremony of the 2025/2026 King Sergeant Awuse Cup, an annual football tournament held at the Ahiezi Field.
Sir Lloyd said the council would collaborate with relevant stakeholders to work out modalities for the relocation of Emohua Central State School 1 from its current location at Ahiezi to create the needed space for the proposed stadium project.
He explained that the mini stadium is aimed at providing a platform for young people across the local government area to discover, nurture, and develop their football talents for national and international opportunities.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment and sports development, the council boss commended the sponsor and organisers of the King Sergeant Awuse Football Competition, noting that inter-community football tournaments play a critical role in fostering peace, unity, and social cohesion.
Sir Lloyd particularly thanked the Paramount Ruler of Emohua Kingdom and Chairman of the South-South Monarchs Forum, His Majesty, Sir Ohna Sergeant Chidi Awuse, for his contributions to peace and development in Emohua. He also announced financial support for the tournament to encourage the participating and victorious teams.
The council chairman further advocated for the establishment of a unified annual football tournament in Emohua Local Government Area, saying it would help harness football talents across the 14 political wards of the council.
