Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area, Sir Chidi Lloyd, has strongly condemned the recent attack on Rivers State University students residing in communities around the institution’s Emohua campus.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Sir Lloyd dismissed claims that the incident took place within the university premises, clarifying that it occurred in nearby communities where some students live off-campus.
To enhance student safety, the chairman announced that the council will begin immediate documentation of students living in the affected communities, along with their landlords. He warned that once the process is completed, any further attacks in off-campus residences will attract sanctions, with landlords of such properties held accountable.
Sir Lloyd, said the attack has been reported to the police, and investigations are underway to identify and prosecute the perpetrators and their collaborators.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening security across Emohua LGA, including the RSU campus and surrounding communities.
The council chairman also alleged that those behind the attack were attempting to force the closure of the Emohua campus in order to create an opportunity to loot university property.
