The Eleme Local Government Council has issued a 14-day ultimatum to gas retailers to vacate residential areas within the locality.
Media aide to the council Chairman, Udeme Obot disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Retailers Association of NUPENG (LPGAR-NUPENG) today, met with the Eleme Local Government Council following the ban to discuss measures for safe domestic gas distribution in the area.
At the meeting held at the council secretariat in Ogale, the union’s State Chapter Chairman, Comrade Nwanneoma Ihemeje, appealed for a collaborative approach to address safety concerns and regulatory compliance.
He acknowledged that the council’s decision was prompted by a recent gas explosion in Oraozi, Port Harcourt, that resulted in casualties. However, Ihemeje urged the council to prioritize regulation instead of outright eviction.
