The Honourable Commissioner for Works, Dr. George-Kelly D. Alabo, FNIQS, DSSRS says Elelenwo internal roads project which is being constructed by the Rivers State Government will be completed in six months.
He maintained that the project consists of 26 roads that crisscross the length and breadth of Elelenwo Community, also connect Aba Road and East-West Road.
The Commissioner stated these whilst providing the project description during the flag-off of the construction of Elelewon Internal Roads on Thursday, 7 September.
“This project consists of a network of 26 separate roads, crisscrossing Elelenwo Community, also connecting Aba Road and East-West Road.
“The total length of the road is 25.12 kilometres. A typical cross-section of the road shows an average of 400mm of filling, 5 percent soil cement stabilisation, 150mm thickness of stone base, 60mm thickness of binder course, and 40mm thickness of wearing course.
“The total length of drains on this road is 17.6 kilometres. The completion duration of the project is six months,” the Commissioner added.
In his speech before flagging off the project, the Executive Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS said his administration decided to include the flagging off of the construction of new projects in its 100 days in office activities because they promised not to lower the standard that they met.
“We are here to do something unusual, I called it unusual because when most people mark 100 days in office, they do more of commissioning of projects, but we decided to add flag-off of new ones to the activities because we understand our promise when we came in, that we are not going to lower the standard for any reason.
“We will continue to add value to what we met and contribute positively to the lives of Rivers people. This project is a special project because it is not only Elelenwo people that are going to benefit from it, everybody living and doing business here will benefit from it.
“My dear Elelenwo people, I want you to own this project. I am appealing to you to give the contractor support and your cooperation so that we can come back here to commission the project in six months time,” the Governor stated.
