A journalist and author with an online news platform, Elanhub.net, Uhegbu Stanley Uche popularly known as ‘The Reporter’ has narrated how escaped physical assault with machetes by officers of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), few weeks ago in Port Harcourt.
The Reporter in a chat with Elanhub today, said he had to hide in a waste bin when the disbanded SARS officers attacked him and his friends at the residence of an APC chieftain at Odili road in the oil rich city.
‘The Reporter’ noted that they had gone to visit the APC bigwig to felicitate with him on the occasion of his birthday when the officers stormed the residence and physically assaulted those on ground with machetes.
“We had gone to celebrate with the APC chieftain who is a known philanthropist to at least commend him for his philanthropic gestures, when the SARS officials stormed the residence in commando style and ordered everyone to go down, he said.
“Some persons including myself were lucky to escape as I hid inside a waste bin to avoid been treated like a common criminal.
Others who couldn’t escape received the beating of their lives with matchetes without knowing their offence,’ he added.
He said it took the intervention of the politician who was upstairs during the incident for the officers to stop. After quizzing the officers they apologised and said they received a distress call that a group of cultists were holding a meeting in the area.
He commended Nigerian youths for awakening to their responsibility of demanding for good governance and an end to the dreaded unit in the country.
