Hajiya Umma, the mother of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has died.
Her passing was made public on Friday through a Facebook post by her grandson, who expressed grief over the loss.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. From Allah we came and to Him we shall return. I wish to announce the passing of my grandmother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, who died a few hours ago,” he wrote.
He confirmed that the deceased was the biological mother of El-Rufai and offered prayers for her soul, asking others to remember the family in their prayers.
“We are thankful for the life she lived. May Allah bless her gentle soul and grant forgiveness to all the departed. On behalf of the family, we ask for your prayers,” the statement added.
As of the time of this report, details regarding the circumstances of her death have not been disclosed.
The development comes amid ongoing legal issues involving El-Rufai, who is currently in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission following his re-arrest after an earlier detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
