Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has been temporarily released from the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
The release was approved to allow him participate in the funeral rites of his late mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, who died in Cairo, Egypt, on Friday, March 27.
His son, Bashir El-Rufai, confirmed the development in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating that his father had been freed from detention while expressing gratitude for the support received by the family.
El-Rufai had been in ICPC custody since February 18 over allegations related to financial misconduct. He was arraigned earlier this week before the Kaduna Division of the Federal High Court alongside one Joel Adoga on charges including alleged conversion and possession of public property, as well as money laundering.
The former governor pleaded not guilty to the charge against him. The court subsequently adjourned ruling on his bail application to March 31, 2026, while he remains in custody pending further proceedings.
