Former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, was reportedly confronted by security operatives upon his arrival from Cairo, his Media Adviser, Muyiwa Adekeye, has claimed.
In a statement released on Thursday, Adekeye alleged that security agents tried to arrest El-Rufai at the airport. However, the former governor reportedly refused to comply, citing the absence of a formal invitation or warrant. The statement added that his passport was allegedly taken from an aide during the encounter.
“Security agents today attempted to arrest Malam Nasir El-Rufai as he arrived on a flight from Cairo. Malam El-Rufai declined to follow them without a formal invitation. They, however, snatched his passport from an aide,” the statement read.
As of the time of reporting, no security agency has officially confirmed or commented on the alleged incident.
The development follows El-Rufai’s recent warning that he could be arrested at any time by the Federal Government.
