Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has accused officials of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) of attempting to force him to withdraw from political engagements as a precondition for his release from detention.
The allegation is detailed in a 30-page criminal complaint filed by El-Rufai against ICPC Chairman Musa Adamu Aliyu and four other agency officials.
According to the filing, El-Rufai said that during his detention, commission officers told him he would only be freed if he stopped participating in political activities.
Paragraph 12 of the complaint specifically states that the ICPC officials, acting under the chairman’s authority, conditioned his release on abandoning all political involvement. The commission is yet to respond to the allegations.
