PORTHARCOURT—The Supreme Egbesu Assembly (SEA), a traditional institution representing the Ijaw people, has issued a warning following comments by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, who stated that the impeachment of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara would not cause significant consequences.
SEA Chairman Werinipre Digifa criticized Wike’s remarks, describing them as reckless and arrogant toward the Ijaw people. He also blamed President Bola Tinubu for failing to restrain Wike, alleging that the minister had undue influence over judicial proceedings.
“Tinubu should be held responsible for Wike’s recklessness and arrogance against the Ijaw nation,” he said.
While emphasizing that the Ijaw people do not support violence, Digifa warned that the group would respond in due course if Fubara were removed from office.
He condemned what he described as the continued harassment and intimidation of the governor, as well as insults directed at the Ijaw ethnic group. He further accused Wike of treating the judiciary as his personal domain and cautioned against escalating political tensions in the Niger Delta.
“We are closely monitoring the situation,” “There’s an African adage that says, ‘Two mad people never behave madly at the same time.’ It would be dangerous for the Niger Delta if both sides engage in reckless speech and actions,” he added.
