The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has begun an investigation into allegations of extortion made against some of its officials by Nigerian rapper, Oladipupo Olabode Oladimeji, popularly known as Oladips.
Oladips had accused EFCC operatives of forcefully obtaining the sum of N10 million from him before his release, following his arrest alongside individuals suspected of internet fraud.
In a statement, the Commission said it takes the allegation seriously and has already summoned the officers involved to its headquarters. They have also been withdrawn from operational duties pending the outcome of the investigation.
According to EFCC, the claims made by the artist do not represent the values of the Commission, noting that any personnel found guilty would face disciplinary action.
The Commission further stated that if the allegations are discovered to be false or intended to tarnish its reputation, appropriate sanctions would also be taken against the accuser.
EFCC urged the public to remain calm and await the outcome of its investigations as it continues its fight against economic and financial crimes across the country.
