The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, charged students and pupils of Friendly Educational Resource, Magcoba, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to stay away from negative influences and do the right thing, even when they are not being monitored.
This charge was given in Port Harcourt by the Acting Executive Chairman, Abdulkarim Chukkol at the inauguration of EFCC Integrity Club in the school. He enjoined the students to be role models both at home and in school, and stay away from friends who might lure them into corrupt practices.
Chukkol, who spoke through the Head, Public Affairs Department, Port Harcourt Command, Superintendent of the EFCC, SE Akpos Deborah Mezeh-Ekisowei, emphasized that corruption was evil and should always be avoided.
On the launch of the Integrity Club, the EFCC boss pointed out that the purpose of the Integrity Club is to promote honest attitude among students especially in the school environment. “Do not steal at home, do not steal books, pencils or pens in school, all these constitute little acts of compromise which will eventually develop into corruption”, he said.
Responding, the proprietor of the school, Pastor Wanaemi Krinworio thanked the EFCC for choosing Friendly Educational Resources as one of the schools for the Integrity Club. “On behalf of the Staff and Management of Friendly Educational Resources, we are grateful to have you in our midst. In our country today, there is a high level of corruption but the EFCC is doing everything to make sure that corruption is eradicated and it is at this age we can get it right. This is the proper time to fight it so that we will not be misled in the future”, he said.
About 47 students joined the Club.
Similarly, on Thursday June 22, 2023, the Command inaugurated another Integrity Club in Oasis Montessori International School and charged pupils on good ethical behaviours. About 40 pupils enlisted in the Club.
