Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio has urged Protesting youths at the Eleme-Onne section of the East-West Road to stop and vacate the area, as funds have been released by the Federal Government for construction of the road.
Akpabio, who made this known in a statement few days ago said work will begin on Friday.
He disclosed that an additional sum of N2.5 billion have been released for payment of compensation to property owners along the road.
Akpabio, who noted that the youths were right to protest, appealed to them to vacate the area to enable contractors begin work.
“The essence of this protest is to draw the attention of the government to the road, now we are here allow us to commence work,” he said.
He further, disclosed that an additional sum of N35 billion has been budgeted by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), to support the project.
