Head coach of Nigeria’s women’s national basketball team, Rena Wakama, has been appointed head coach of Hive BC for the 2025–26 season of the Unrivaled Basketball League in the United States.
Unrivaled, an eight-team women’s basketball league co-founded in 2023 by WNBA stars Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier, debuted in January 2025 with six teams. The league announced its coaching lineup for the upcoming season on Thursday, confirming Wakama’s inclusion among eight head coaches selected for the new campaign.
Wakama, who made history as the first female coach to lead Nigeria’s D’Tigress, has guided the team to back-to-back FIBA Women’s AfroBasket titles in 2023 and 2025, and a historic quarter-final appearance at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
