The Department of State Services (DSS) has reportedly taken into custody former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, shortly after proceedings at the Federal High Court in Kaduna on Tuesday.
The latest development, which occurred on April 1, 2026, marks another turn in the ongoing legal and security issues surrounding the former governor.
El-Rufai was earlier arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on February 13, 2026, over allegations of corruption. Although he was subsequently released, he was immediately re-arrested by the DSS on fresh allegations.
According to sources, the DSS is investigating claims that El-Rufai unlawfully intercepted the communication of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
The agency has accused the former governor of cybercrime offences and violations of the Nigerian Communications Act, 2003, alleging his involvement in the illegal surveillance of Ribadu’s telephone.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from El-Rufai or his legal representatives regarding the latest allegations.
