The Department of State Services (DSS) has filed a six-count charge against a 27-year-old man, Innocent Chukwuemeka Onukwume, over alleged calls for a military takeover in Nigeria.
According to court documents filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja and marked FHC/ABJ/CR/610/2025, the DSS accused Onukwume, a resident of Umusayo Layout in Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State, of committing the offences in October 2025.
The charge, filed on November 11 by DSS counsel A. M. Danalami, alleges that Onukwume used social media to promote the idea of a coup, attack the President, and incite the military against the government.
One of the charges quotes the defendant as saying: “A coup in Nigeria is needed. Dispose of APC, suspend the Nigeria government and join the AES. That is all we need now.”
Other counts reference similar posts allegedly urging support for military intervention, including one that read: “The military needs your support now! Only them can save this country… only the military can reset this country.”
The DSS said Onukwume’s actions violate Sections 46A(1) and 59(1) of the Criminal Code Act, as well as Section 24(1)(b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2024 (as amended).
Sources indicate that Onukwume is expected to be arraigned before the end of the week.
