The Department of State Services (DSS) has filed criminal charges against human rights activist and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
According to court documents obtained on Tuesday, the DSS filed a five-count charge accusing Sowore of defaming President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by calling him a “criminal.”
The charges, filed on September 16, 2025, by M.B. Abubakar, Director of Public Prosecutions at the Federal Ministry of Justice, alongside four other counsel, have not yet been assigned to a judge. No date has been fixed for Sowore’s arraignment.
