The executive chairman of Opobo/Nkoro LGA, Rt. Hon (Dr) Enyiada Cookey-Gam DSSRS Balolo Of Opobo Kingdom has presented the 2024 Appropriation Bill of N5,733,283,500b (Five billion, seven hundred and thirty-three million, two hundred and eighty three thousand, five hundred naira only) to the Opobo/Nkoro Legislative Assembly for approval on Wednesday, February 14th 2024.
The Council boss christened the Appropriation Bill, “BUDGET OF HOPE” to reaffirm his commitment to good governance for all indigenes and residents alike.
This is reflected in the proposed capital and recurrent expenditure which stood at N2,246,500,000 and 3,429,449,665 respectively.
Dr Cookey-Gam while presenting the Bill highlighted key areas of his administration’s determined focus, which include;
1. Strategic Infrastructure Development
2. Agriculture (food production and processing)
3. Education
4. Human Capacity Development
5. Social Welfare Scheme.
He expressed satisfaction with the implementation of the previous budget which really impacted on the lives of the people, adding that this year’s Budget of Hope will build on the gains and further the speedy development of Opobo/Nkoro LGA.
The chairman reaffirmed that the recurrent expenditure of the budget estimate captures the N30,000 minimum and promotion of staff, in line with the vision and leadership of the executive Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency Sir Siminalayi Fubara GSSRS.
Lastly, he emphasized that the overall vision of the budget is to transform the LGA into an Economic and Investment Hub in the state and the nation at large.
