In a recent interview, D’banj shed light on the strategic approach he and Don Jazzy took to create the powerful image of their record label, Mo’Hits. According to D’banj, they intentionally built a narrative that portrayed Don Jazzy as the silent yet dominant force behind their success, despite both being equal partners.
Reflecting on their rise, D’banj shared, “At the time, Mo’Hits wasn’t nominated for awards despite our success. We realized we were the only label heads who were also the artists and producers, so we needed to make people fear us.”
He further explained how their stage presence played a key role in shaping the Mo’Hits brand. “Every time I whispered in his ear on stage, we weren’t saying anything. It was branding. We trusted each other to play our roles. Jazzy didn’t need to talk—his presence spoke volumes.”
