The Caretaker Committee Chairman of Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area, Evans Bipi has appealed to his people not to take part in the planned nationwide protest on August 1 over the current economic hardship in the country.
The Ogu/Bolo CTC Chairman made the appeal at a Townhall Meeting with the Leaders and people of Ogu/Bolo on Friday.
According to Publicity Secretary of the council, Emeka Idika Kalu, Evans Bipi said while the reason for the nationwide protest is justified there was no need for the peace loving and law abiding people of Ogu/Bolo to be part of it.
He said his administration is already addressing the widespread hunger and economic hardship in the area with the implementation of a range of economic empowerment initiatives to mitigate the effect of the hardship on the people.
He said, “We are all aware that there is a planned protest and I have advised my people not to join them in that protest, foodstuffs have been sent to the various States, I have also received and distributed the one for my Local Government Area to the people.”
“As a Local Government we have also bought over four hundred bags of rice and provided funds for Traders as grants to cushion the effect of hunger. You cannot eradicate poverty but you can reduce it to a minimal level, that is what we are trying to do”
“So, I told my people that in the light of the measures we have taken so far since we assumed office there is no need for them to join the nationwide protest and they agreed with me”
