Television and Radio stations in Nigeria have been directed by the National Broadcasting Commission not to disclose “details” of the activities of kidnappers, bandits and terrorists in their reports.
The Director of Broadcast and Monitoring, Francisca Aiyetan, made this known on behalf of the Director-General of the Commission, Balarabe Ilelah.
She appealed to media houses not to glamourise the nefarious activities of insurgents” during their daily reports and reviews.
Aiyetan, also directed media houses to be cautious while reporting activities of kidnappers and terrorists in the country.
She furthermore, urged broadcasters to collaborate with the government in dealing with security challenges bedeviling the nation.
