Delta State has been declared the overall winner of the 22nd National Sports Festival, Gateway Games 2024, which concluded in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Saturday.
The two-week sporting event drew over 11,000 athletes from Nigeria’s 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory, and a contingent of Invited Junior Athletes. Competitors battled for honours in more than 32 sports disciplines.
Delta State clinched the top spot with a total of 271 medals—109 gold, 75 silver, and 87 bronze—marking its fifth consecutive festival victory and reinforcing its dominance in Nigerian sports.
Bayelsa State finished second, while host state Ogun secured third place.
Enugu State has been announced as the host of the 2025 edition of the National Sports Festival.
