Chief Medical Director, of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, Prof. Henry Ugboma has denied media reports that 14 babies recently died at the facility.
The CMD, during a press briefing on Tuesday said the reports were politically motivated.
He questioned how such a thing could happen, and why parents of the babies did not raise an alarm.
“14 infants did not die at UPTH how can that happen, where are the parents of these children? It did not happen, the rumour was politically motivated to tarnish our image,” he said.
Prof. Ugboma who also decried the shortage of power supply at the hospital, dismissed reports that doctors carryout surgeries with torch lights.
He stated that such a thing is not possible as they cannot be that careless with human lives.
He also noted that the hospital spends millions of naira buying diesel to run generators.
Ugboma called on Non-governmental organizations and well-meaning Nigerians to assist the hospital in effectively running it.
