KEY VERSE: “Nevertheless I will remember my covenant with thee in the days of thy youth, and I will establish unto thee an everlasting covenant.” – (Ezekiel 16:60)
TEXT: Ezekiel 16:53-63 (KJV)
53 I will restore them again from their captivity, restore the fortunes of Sodom and her daughters and the fortunes of Samaria and her daughters, and I will restore your own fortunes in the midst of them [in the day of the Lord],
54 That you [Judah], amid your shame and disgrace, may be compelled to recognize your wickedness and be thoroughly ashamed and confounded at all you have done, becoming [converted and bringing] consolation and comfort to [your sisters.]
55 And your sisters, Sodom and her daughters shall return to their former estate, and Samaria and her daughters shall return to their former estate; then you and your daughters shall return to your former estate.
56 For was your sister Sodom not mentioned by you [except] as a byword in the day of your pride,
57 Before your own wickedness was uncovered? Now you have become like her, an object of reproach and a byword for the daughters of Syria and of Edom and for all who are round about them and for the daughters of the Philistines—those round about who despise you.
58 You bear the penalty of your lewdness and your [idolatrous] abominations, says the Lord.
59 Yes, thus says the Lord God: I will even deal with you as you have done, who have despised the oath in breaking the covenant;
60 Nevertheless, I will [earnestly] remember My covenant with you in the days of your youth and I will establish with you an everlasting covenant.
61 Then you will [earnestly] remember your ways and be ashamed and confounded when you shall receive your sisters, both your elder and your younger; I will give them to you as daughters, but not on account of your covenant [with Me].
62 And I will establish My covenant with you, and you shall know (understand and realize) that I am the Lord,
63 That you may [earnestly] remember and be ashamed and confounded and never open your mouth again because of your shame, when I have forgiven you all that you have done, says the Lord God.

The thief on the cross alongside Jesus was one of the most fortunate people that have ever lived on earth. He never worshipped God. He was a threat to the society and lived exclusively on crime. He was sentenced to death with his partner-in-crime, for an offence they committed. Fortunately, their day of execution coincided with the day Jesus was being crucified. Right at the point of death, he received pardon and secured a place of eternal peace.
In our text, there was a message of hope in sad story of betrayal. The people were going into captivity because of their idolatry. They would be returned to the land, not as an independent nation, but only as an identifiable people, the Israel of God.
Ezekiel concludes the allegory with a message of new covenant. Although God is angry with the wicked, He is always ready to receive a sinner or backslider who chooses to return to the fold.God’s covenant blessings are for all who choose to amend their ways. He is calling the sinner and backslider to come to Him for restoration.
There is no hopeless case that God cannot fix. All He wants is your heart. If you will, like the thief on the cross, repent of your sins and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, you will earn for yourself an eternal abode in heaven.Therefore, take a step of faith and return from your slavish journey, today.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: “Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.”
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Chronicles 12-15
