KEY VERSE: Micah 2:1 – “Woe to them that devise iniquity, and work evil upon their beds! when the morning is light, they practise it, because it is in the power of their hand.” .
TEXT: Micah 2:1-6 (KJV)
1. Woe to them that devise iniquity, and work evil upon their beds! when the morning is light, they practise it, because it is in the power of their hand.
2. And they covet fields, and take them by violence; and houses, and take them away; so they oppress a man and his house, even a man and his heritage.
3. Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, against this family do I devise an evil, from which ye shall not remove your necks; neither shall ye go haughtily; for this time is evil.
4. In that day shall one take up a parable against you, and lament with a doleful lamentation, and say, We be utterly spoiled; he hath changed the portion of my people; how hath he removed it from me! turning away he hath divided our fields.
5. Therefore thou shalt have none that shall cast a cord by lot in the congregation of the LORD.
6. Prophesy ye not, say they to them that prophesy; they shall not prophesy to them, that they shall not take shame.

King Solomon wrote that God “hath made everything beautiful in His time” and that is true. All one has to do is observe the order in nature. The sun shines during the day and the moon at night; the sea may roar but it keeps its boundary. Despite climate change, the seasons follow their courses routinely. But man has invented many evil things and altered God’s ordained order.
God gave the Israelites civil and moral laws to guide their interpersonal relationships. But they violated God’s laws by subscribing to a culture of moral corruption. They became a nation of social injustices, thus sinning against God. Prophet Micah pronounced doom on the rich and powerful who heartlessly exploited others for personal enrichment. Through scheming and bribery, they expropriated the people of their property; thereby impoverishing and enslaving them. He prophesied that God would bring calamity upon those who gained wealth through oppression and wickedness.
God still frowns at oppression. As He lifts us up in life, privileged positions should not be an opportunity for personal aggrandisement. Greedy pursuit of financial or material gain should not make us trample on people’s rights. Injustice is reprehensible in God’s sight. Always remember the divine law of retribution; what we sow is what we reap; here on earth and or in eternity. Zacchaeus said, “Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken anything from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold” (Luke 19:8).
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: God hates oppression; oppressors dare Him.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: John 10-12
