DCLM Daily Manna 23 February 2026: Be Like Christ
Text: 1 Peter 2:18–25 (KJV)
Servants, be submissive to your masters with all fear, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the harsh. 19 For this is commendable, if because of conscience toward God one endures grief, suffering wrongfully. 20 For what credit is it if, when you are beaten for your faults, you take it patiently? But when you do good and suffer, if you take it patiently, this is commendable before God. 21 For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps:
22 “Who committed no sin,
Nor was deceit found in His mouth”;
23 who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously; 24 who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed. 25 For you were like sheep going astray, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
KEY VERSE: 1 Peter 2:21 (KJV)

Many people assume that every form of suffering is a punishment from God. Because of this, some fall into self-condemnation, self-pity, or even depression. However, Scripture teaches that not all suffering is the result of wrongdoing. Sometimes, God allows difficulties to test faith and build Christlike character.
Apostle Peter reminds believers that living in a fallen world means we may occasionally suffer unjust treatment, even from people in authority such as employers. The believer’s calling is not retaliation but Christlike endurance. When we suffer for doing right—not for our own mistakes—such patience is pleasing to God.
Jesus Christ is our perfect example. Though sinless, He endured insults, injustice, and the cross without revenge or complaint. Through His suffering, humanity received salvation. In the same way, believers are called to reflect His spirit of humility, submission, and steadfast faith.
When Christians respond to unfair treatment with grace:
God is glorified
Other believers are strengthened
Unbelievers may be drawn to Christ
Therefore, instead of seeing unjust suffering as strange, believers should view it as an opportunity to walk in the footsteps of Christ.
