DCLM Daily Manna 2026: DCLM Daily Manna 7 February 2026: Unchangeable Commandment
Text: 1 John 2:6–14 (KJV)
KEY VERSE: 1 John 2:7
“Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning.”
Peter A. Fraille, a Jesuit priest and founder of the Divine and Human Institute, once shared a letter he received from a sixteen-year-old girl who had been deeply offended by a fellow student.
She described her anger and frustration and how she was struggling to deal with them. Despite her hurt, she acknowledged that the person who offended her was still as lovable and valuable as she herself was.
She concluded the letter with these profound words: “As I was finishing this letter, something hit me like a ton of bricks… No matter how much I learn, no matter how much I experience, no matter how much I write, if I don’t love, I don’t know anything!”
In today’s passage, Apostle John reminds believers that he was not introducing a new commandment but reaffirming an old one—God’s timeless commandment of love. From the beginning,
God has called humanity to walk in light and love. This command remains as relevant today as the air we breathe. “Love one another” is not merely a moral suggestion; it is a divine command that reflects God’s very nature. Christ enriched this command by giving it deeper meaning through His sacrificial love, and Apostle John further illuminated it for the Church.
This commandment applies to all believers—young and old, new converts and mature Christians alike. Whether described as little children, young men, or fathers in Christ, all are called to love God and one another.
We are to love as Christ loved us, laying down His life for our salvation. God’s command has not changed with time; what He required in the past remains binding today.
Just as God called the patriarchs to circumcision as a sign of covenant loyalty, He now calls believers to sanctification as evidence of our love for Him. Even today, the love of God calls sinners to repentance and invites all into a life of light, truth, and divine fellowship.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Christianity is hollow without love.
