7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
KEY VERSE: “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.”
— Matthew 5:6 (KJV)
Eric Liddell, a Scottish athlete and Christian missionary, remains one of the most inspiring examples of faith-driven conviction. During the 1924 Paris Olympics, he refused to compete in his favourite race—the 100 meters—because it was scheduled on a Sunday, a day he had set aside for the Lord.
Instead, he chose to run in the 400 meters, a race he was not expected to win. Against all odds, Eric won the gold medal and set a world record. His decision to honour God above personal ambition became a lasting testimony of genuine godliness and obedience. After the Olympics, he returned to China as a missionary and devoted the rest of his life to spreading the gospel.
His story demonstrates that living a godly life is possible—even in the face of intense pressure and worldly temptation. True godliness is not just about religious practices; it’s about living out righteousness, humility, and holiness in every area of life.
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus outlines what it means to be truly blessed—not by wealth, fame, or comfort, but through virtues like meekness, mercy, purity of heart, peacemaking, and a hunger for righteousness. These traits reflect the transformation that takes place in a heart surrendered to God. Those who sincerely long for holiness and moral integrity will be filled with divine grace and satisfaction that the world cannot offer.
Today’s message challenges every believer to examine their hearts. Are you genuinely hungry for righteousness? Do humility, purity, and mercy define your walk with God? Holistic godliness means allowing the Spirit of God to shape both your character and conduct—inside and out.
The grace to live this way is freely available through Jesus Christ. Ask God today for the passion and strength to pursue complete godliness, and you will enjoy both His presence now and eternal rewards in the life to come.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
The potency of true Christian living is derived from holistic godliness.
