DCLM Daily Manna 2024: DCLM Daily Manna 24 August 2024: Satan’s Undoing
Text: Isaiah 14:12-20
12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning*! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.
16 They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;
17 That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?
18 All the kings of the nations, even all of them, lie in glory, every one in his own house.
19 But thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch, and as the raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a carcase trodden under feet.
20 Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou hast destroyed thy land, and slain thy people: the seed of evildoers shall never be renowned.
KEY VERSE: Isaiah 14:12
“How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!”
Several people have claimed to be God or Jesus over the years. One of such blasphemous impostors declined when asked to write his autobiography, saying there was no reason to write a biography since he would not need it. He claimed immortality and successfully shielded his parental identity and roots, saying he was not born by mortals. He got some followers who worshipped him. But one day in 1965, he died and so ended his story. Those who equate themselves to God live to regret it on earth and are doomed eternally in hell.
What could have made a creature think he can become greater than his Creator? Satan was overwhelmed by his resplendent beauty and pride. He was the first to be proud against God; the first who wanted to be like the Most High; the first who wanted to control his Creator; the first who wanted to ascend to heaven and the first to be cut down among God’s creatures. His judgment and downfall were pronounced by God Himself.
The world is characterised by satanic traits. Many live as if God does not exist. Those who recognise His existence live as if He is some powerless monarch who will not punish sinners. Yet others believe in their pride, that they can control God to suit their purpose. But we know that “He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened himself against him, and hath prospered?” (Job 9:4). None.
Walking with God demands humility. Believers must beware of the danger of pride, greed, craving for power and position, as well as rebellion against God in their day-to-day activities. We must always recognise the supremacy of God almighty in all things and give all glory due to Him only.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Un-repented rebellion is the forerunner of doom.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Daniel 11-12
