DCLM Daily Manna 2024: DCLM Daily Manna 2 December 2024: A Very Present Help
Text: Psalm 46:1-11 (KJV)
1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
2 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
3 Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.
4 There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.
5 God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.
6 The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted.
7 The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.
8 Come, behold the works of the LORD, what desolations he hath made in the earth.
9 He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire.
10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
11 The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.
KEY VERSE: Psalm 46:1
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
The world has improved in disaster management and emergency response services. Many countries, especially the advanced nations, boast of very sophisticated disaster management technologies and equipment and have prompt response time to emergency calls. However, there are still telling records of casualties, some of which are fatal during disasters in these countries. The fact is that though these measures are in place, they are often not quite timely and adequate.
The psalmist in our text testifies of a help that is more than adequate and very present! In the face of looming disasters, cosmic catastrophes and threats from enemies, the psalmist displays calm and confidence in God. He rests his faith that God, the most powerful, is his refuge – his security base. Not only is God his Protector, but He is also ever so present and would come to his immediate help when trouble looms.
Christians must have this same confidence and trust in the face of the world’s many problems. Knowing that God is our refuge and ever-present help, we will not fret even though there are security threats, natural disasters, political upheavals, economic turmoil, hunger, diseases, pandemics, etc., ravaging the world. Instead, our faith in God should be seen in our calm composure and words of confidence during storms.
God’s help never comes late! He operates the most effective and efficient emergency response and rescue system. All we need do is to maintain a close and intimate relationship with Him, ensuring that we stay within His sheltering care. Also, we should learn to dial His emergency rescue numbers in prayers when faced with challenges. He will be there right on time!
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
God always walks in when troubles breakout.
